This Week’s Legislative Update

This was a significant week for Oklahoma gun owners with bill we were watching ready for the Govenor’s desk or one more stop away. Take a look!

SB500 passed the House and is headed to the Govenor’s desk!

This bill was introduced by Senator Casey Murdock and Representative Kevin West, and prohibits public entities from entering into contracts with businesses unless they certify that they do not discriminate against firearm businesses. Anti-gun corporations, banks, and their executives have expressed interest in denying services to the firearm industry as a way to further their political agenda and impose gun control by making such business impossible when legislatures won’t bend to their will. Read more here

SB50 passed the house 88-0 and continues to make its way through the legislative process.

This bill has been a bi-partisan effort spear-headed by Senator Dosset for a tax credit on purchases of gun safes. This shows our state’s support for responsible gun ownership by encouraging purchases and use of gun safes. This could have a secondary effect in helping with the rise of gun theft by criminals because of guns left unsecured in cars and homes.

SB631 passed the house and is headed to the Govenor’s desk!

This bill comes from Senate Pro Tem Paxton and increases penalties on maliciously firing a gun in a home, building, or business, requiring convicts to serve 85% of their sentence before parole eligibility. Read more here.

Congratulations Mark!

ORA President Mark Vaughan was previously serving as 2nd VP of the NRA, but after Monday’s NRA Board meeting in Atlanta, he was elected as VP. This comes after working with other patriots over the past year in NRA leadership to bring new direction and vision to the 150-year-old mission, something better known as NRA 2.0.

“I am honored to have the trust of my fellow board members and of our membership to uphold the mission of the NRA as Vice President. For decades I have been part of our shooting sports, hunting, and clubs, so I know firsthand our community, knowledge, passion, and heritage can provide answers to the many issues we face. Because at the end of the day we are a people who love liberty and it is our Second Amendment which assures its continuance for generations to come.”
