Election Victory was No Accident!
As we approach the welcoming in of the new Presidential administration, we are certainly thankful to be seeing the next four years as favorable to our 2nd Amendment rights. However, we want to reflect on what happens behind the scenes in the past election. The NRA was actively involved and rallied gun owners to vote. We also saw organizations like Hunt the Vote also encourage voter groups to get out and vote for the administration that would support activities such as hunting.
There was much on the line for us. John Commerford, Interim Director of NRA-ILA, shares the strategy the NRA used and that it was working very hard behind the scenes to secure a pro-gun administration.

What NRA-ILA does for Oklahoma and the Nation
Our friends at the Buckeye Firearms Association, the NRA State Affiliate for Ohio, had a great article spelling out exactly what NRA-ILA does at a Federal and State level. Just as this article explains the NRA’s lobbying arm and how it supports the Buckeye state, it does the very same thing for all of us in Oklahoma.
With its renewed focus on its mission, the NRA has and will only grow to be the nation’s and Oklahoma’s support for our Second Amendment, working with lawmakers on legisation that doesn’t only cover our civil rights, but that “NRA-ILA is involved in any issue that affects firearms use and ownership, including hunting and access to hunting lands, conservation efforts, marksmanship training, law-enforcement issues, crime victim rights, and criminal justice reform.”
We appreciate and applaud the work of other groups, but they are not the 800 lb gorilla that the NRA is when they walk into our state and nation’s capital.

The ORA Members Running for NRA BOD
In addition to our ORA President, Mark Vaughan, serving as the 2nd VP of the NRA, the ORA has quite a few other NRA board members within our membership. We wanted to give our membership a chance to get to know them beyond their NRA board nomination bio— usually a long list of accomplishments because of the sheer talent found on the NRA board.
However, when it comes time to vote, NRA Life members or those who have been NRA members for 5+ consecutive years have a long list to choose from and that bio seems all too short in knowing who the nominees truly are. As the outreach team has gotten to know some of these directors, you’ll find they are just like us, involved in their local clubs, community, and all passionate about preserving our civil rights.
