The ORA was excited to add another state competition match to its growing repertoire; Air Rifle and Pistol. This is a growing sport for high school students with opportunity to compete in CMP matches and gain NCAA scholarships.
We had great attendance from JROTC, 4H, and even students from Louisiana looking to gain valuable match time.
Our competitors not only were high school students, but also adults as well. Nadine Lewis, a national champion that we had previously featured in the Sharpshooter, joined the air pistol matches.
One JROTC team came from Putnam City West, which as we learned, has a thriving air rifle and pistol program as well as archery. Additionally, they have the range with electric targets that air rifle and pistol teams need for practice and become competitive for NCAA scholarships and placements on college teams.
Next year, we anticipate a greater attendance with the popularity of AR and AP with high school students and the growing awareness of the Oklahoma Rifle Association and our support for the shooting sports in Oklahoma.
